Pentru că hepatita C este tipul cel mai sever de boală ce produce complicaţii severe, medicii recomandă efectuarea testului pentru depistarea acesteia, mai ales în cazul persoanelor care au suferit transfuzii de sânge. „Persoanele care suportă transfuzii de sânge sunt cele mai predis-puse la hepatita C. De aceea, testarea se impune după o astfel de procedură medicală. Există însă şi simptome specifice care trebuie să ridice semne de întrebare: oboseală accentuată, lipsa poftei de mâncare, vărsături, scăderea în greutate. Dacă testul confirmă prezenţa bolii, medicul de familie dă trimitere către medicul specialist infecţionist pentru impunerea tratamentului. Hepatita C este o afecţiune perfidă, care provoacă în foarte multe dintre cazuri, cancer hepatic”, a explicat dr. Mirela Stângaciu, medic de familie.

Înainte de testare, dacă pacientul prezintă simptomele amintite, va trece printr-un consult medical şi analize la sânge - transaminazele. Atunci când este cazul, specialiştii recurg şi la puncţia hepatică, o procedură care oferă informaţii legate de tipul şi severitatea leziunilor hepatice.
