Care sunt cauzele şi riscurile de apariţie ale chalazionului

Chalazionul este provocat de un blocaj la nivelul uneia dintre glandele sebacee meibomius, prezente pe marginea pleoapelor. Aceste glande produc o substanţă uleioasă care intră în compoziţia lacrimilor şi care are rol de a lubrifia suprafaţa ochiului.
„Chalazionul nu este o infecţie, ci o inflamaţie. Tipic, această afecţiune se dezvoltă lent, pe parcursul a 2-3 săp-tămâni, evoluează în general fără durere oculară şi se dezvoltă mai profund în pleoapă decât urciorul. Chalazionul nu este o boală contagioasă, însă, lăsat netratat, chistul se poate extinde atât de mult încât poate afecta vederea.
Nu se cunoaşte o cauză exactă a apariţiei chalazionului, însă anumite persoane pot avea o predispoziţie mai pronunţată, mai ales dacă au mai suferit de chalazion în trecut sau îşi freacă ochii cu mâinile murdare”, a precizat dr. Eliza Avram, medic primar oftalmolog.
