Ocluzia venelor retiniene reprezintă o urgenţă oftalmologică. Obstrucţia arterei centrale a retinei, care irigă interiorul său, produce ischemie retiniană gravă. Aceasta, netratată, în scurt timp duce la pierderea ireversibilă a vederii.

Starea patologică poate fi determinată de embolie, hipercolesterolemie, traumatisme, tromboză, diabet zaharat, hipertensiune arterială, glaucom, exoftalmii endocrine etc. Principalul simptom al afecţiunii este scăderea bruscă a vederii.

„Ocluzia venelor retiniene este una dintre cele mai periculoase patologii oculare ce poate duce la pierderea vederii, ireversibil. Din păcate, în ultimele decenii, experţii au constatat o tendinţă de creştere a numărului de persoane care sunt diagnosticate cu ocluzia venei retiniene, un blocaj al venelor şi capilarelor retinei. Cel mai des, aceasta apare ca rezultat al hipertensiunii şi aterosclerozei”, explică specialiştii de la Clinica Microchirurgia Ochiului.

Leziunea oculară devine ireversibilă după 90 de minute de la instalare, de aceea diagnosticul trebuie stabilit de urgenţă, precum şi tratamentul. Dacă obstrucţia este mai veche de 24 de ore, recuperarea vederii nu mai este posibilă.
